Our Company

Hunt & Associates Assisted Living was started in 1981 as an integrated real estate development and management company established as a result of Hammond Hunt’s vision to provide quality affordable housing options for the elderly.  Hammond Hunt, working together with Charles Byrd, Dennis Owens and Bill Hunt designed, financed, built, managed, and owned 59 Assisted Living/Alzheimer communities and 20 Independent Living apartment communities that were financed through the USDA Rural Development 515 and Low Income Housing Tax Credit programs, all privately owned.  The properties were developed throughout a four-state region (North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia).

In 1998, an offer was received to purchase the completed and leased-up Assisted Living/Alzheimer communities.  The remaining Assisted Living/Alzheimer communities, consisting of those that had been under construction and/or lease-up at the time of the first sale and those communities developed subsequently were sold at various times through 2006.

Since 2006 the Company has operated as Hunt & Associates Elderly Housing Corporation, commonly known as Hunt Elderly Housing.  Its focus today is on management of the 20 apartment communities in addition to a few properties that are owned by others.  To bring new life to those communities, the ownership is being transferred, typically to a non-profit, with Hunt Elderly Housing continuing to manage under a contract with the new owner.

The corporate office is situated in the rolling hills of Abingdon, Virginia in the Abingdon Professional Centre which is owned and managed by the principals of the Company.  The Company employs 10 employees in the corporate office and manages approximately 34 employees at the various communities.

It is our belief that the success of the Company resulted from being able to continually meet an array of proven consumer demands through programs implemented by a skilled, well trained, caring staff that always maintain a positive attitude.  The resident has always been the core-center of our program.  All accommodations, services, and amenities are planned and carried out expressly to foster resident individuality, encourage resident independence, protect resident privacy, preserve resident dignity, personalize resident services and provide residents freedom by giving them choices.
